INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Colts second-year cornerback Sauce Gardner suffered a mild left calf strain in the third quarter of Sunday’s 26-20 loss to the Titans, forcing him to exit the game.
The calf injury Gardner suffered in Week 6 against Tennessee is the same left calf that kept Gardner on the sidelines for multiple games last season.
On Wednesday, Gardner provided an update on his left calf strain.
” Just taking it day by day; it’s definitely not as bad as last year, so I think I’m in a good spot,” Gardner said. “I’m not really concerned. I trust our training staff here, and like I said, it’s not as bad as last year, so I’m just happy it’s not the same spot.”
Gardner was asked if he described his current ailment as a separate injury from the left calf injury he suffered in Week 13 of last season and how he plans on monitoring it moving forward.
“It’s in the same muscle, but it’s not the same exact spot,” Gardner said. “Looking at the MRI, the exact spot where it happened last year was scarred down and that’s taken care of. It’s a different spot but it’s much [more] minor than last year, so we’re going to be good.”
Head coach Shane Steichen said Monday that Gardner is now considered week-to-week and is unlikely to play this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
Gardner has recorded 17 tackles and four pass deflections this season.
