SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) -- A section of Highway 37 that runs along the San Pablo Bay will be completely closed over the weekend, with overnight westbound closures beginning Wednesday night.

Work being done on the 21-mile stretch of roadway between Mare Island in Vallejo and Sears Point in Sonoma County aims to prepare for heavy rains and El Niño conditions. Select portions of Highway 37 will be raised by 3 feet, according to Caltrans, “to improve resiliency and address flooding concerns along this vital transportation corridor.”

Caltrans will close the westbound direction of the work area Wednesday night at 7 p.m., reopening the roadway at 4 a.m. Thursday. The overnight closure will repeat on Thursday night through Friday morning.

On Friday night, both eastbound and westbound directions will shut down at 10 p.m. and remain closed until 5 a.m. on Monday.
